The Art of Words Curriculum Plan is divided into two groups; the first group (Wordplay) is geared for children age 2-5 years of age.
The second group (Intelligent Minds) is geared for children age 6 -13 years of age. This age groups content includes some of the curriculum content included in the primary age group, but its focus is based on the exploration of literature and in some cases remediation.
Curriculum content includes: learning beginning letter sounds, Consonant Vowel Constant words, Sight words, The Parts of Speech, reading comprehension and sentence construction. Children are introduced to a variety of picture books and beginning readers. Activities are geared towards children developing their fine motor and listening skills
Curriculum content includes: An introduction to various genres which include, but are not limited to; nonfiction, historical fiction, science fiction, action adventure, fairy tales, graphic novels and mystery. This group will have more of a focus on reading comprehension skills, writing and making connections (text to self, text to text and text to world).
The art-based projects will be determined based on the literature, age range and developmental skills of the students. Like the primary group, the use of visual, theater and performing art genres will be used to reinforce the subject matter content
